Behold OZ

Behold OZ

These four large concrete sculptures were commissioned by the Otago Polytech as part of their “Four Plinths project” public art project.

However, these sculptures are not displayed as the artworks they are, but instead are falsely claimed to be “archaeological finds.”

BEHOLD OZ explores the modern era's information landscape. Through fragmented concrete sculptures, the work comments on the prevalence of misinformation. Inspired by Percy Shelley's poem "Ozymandias," it challenges historical accuracy and internet-driven distortions.

By displaying disparate elements together, the work prompts critical thinking about online reliability but more so how quick we are to trust information presented by Authority figures like Polytechs, Universities and even our Government,

while also reflecting on the potential confusion future generations may face when interpreting our present in a tumultuous world.
